GREAT MOMs

My current clinical practice is treating pregnant people with a SUD in the Grand Rapids Encompassing Addiction Treatment with Maternal Obstetric Management (GREAT MOMs) program, housed in Spectrum Health’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinic. In the clinic, I collaborate with a nurse-midwife to provide both prenatal and SUD care. The pilot program was funded by BCBS and treated a total of 71 patients with an attrition of 5 patients. Of 51 patients who delivered, 45% (88.63%) attended their six-week postpartum visit and there were zero lapses in medication for OUD treatment. Regarding the 51 babies born to the program, there were zero stillbirths and the average length of stay for the single births was 8.54 days in the hospital, including a mandatory 5 day observation period.
